Avon Calling! (Episode 1)

Author: Hayley Camille

In the seedy underworld of 1940’s New York, revenge tastes like cherry pie with a side of lipstick and perfume. The Avon Lady is in town…

Betty Jones is a woman with a dark past, which she paints each day with Avon cosmetics and a picture-perfect smile. She’s created a new life with her naïve-but-loveable husband George, and their children, Nancy and George Junior.

Despite the protective walls that she has built around her world, Betty is unable to live with the continuing existence of the people who once ruined her, so she embarks on a cold-blooded vigilante mission to be rid of them once and for all.

“Excellent and flawlessly executed” J M (Amazon)

“Avon Calling takes on the tropes of femininity in the 40’s- the dutiful wife, gals who just want to look pretty letting their man do all the heavy lifting and thinking – and flips them on their head.” Screencraft

“Avon Calling is one of my favorites because its premise is based upon balancing the normal day of a 1940’s housewife and mother with her night time adventures as a kick-ass assassin or whatever she is! Great fun and definitely something that I haven’t come across before.” Manchester (Amazon)

“… a World War II era super heroine who is juggling responsibilities of protecting the home front with those of her family – a solid four stars and sincerely tempted to toss in an extra half star” A K (Amazon)

“… a vigilante super heroine who is a little bit like Betty Draper and a lot like Frank Castle… (it) does a great job of turning the world of superheroes upside down and inside out.” Eric (Goodreads)

Love the story! An Avon lady with a secret life! She’s gutsy and smart. Determined to make the world a better place and doesn’t need accolades for what she accomplishes just self-satisfaction! Have read the first three instalments and ready for more!! Try the series, it’s a definite winner and highly recommend it!!

    Lethal Avon Lady
    By J Phillips on November 22, 2016

Very interesting Avon lady who can read minds and take matters into her own hands. A good plot with a great main character in Betty. A good start to a new series. Would definitely recommend this novella to family and friends. Looking forward to further adventures with Betty.

    Cute Story
    By Sandra V on November 11, 2016

This was a cute story. I enjoyed it. An Avon lady working as killer of dopers is a tad odd but makes a story.

Very entertaining story. Especially since she leads a double life. Being able to read minds is definitely a benefit in helping her lead that double life. I do wish the story was longer. I feel like I was getting just a small glimpse of the Avon Lady when the story it over. Can’t wait to continue the other episodes.

    It was amazing

    Shelves: mystery, paranormal, hard-boiled, 1940-s

There are some minor mistakes throughout the chapter. This is a chapter book. So it’s short, easy to read and it definitely makes you want more!
It’s the 1940’s, WWII is in full swing and Betty is a housewife who loves her husband and her children. She also sells Avon. After all, the children are in school and she’s bored at home. What the hubby and children don’t know is that Betty has a secret gift and a lot of revenge in her heart.
This first chapter introduces us to Betty’s gift and why she is out after men who are not law-abiding citizens of the great city of New York or for that matter, America. So she decides to do something about it. After all, she has all the skills and know-how to get it done. And Avon? Well, let’s just say that it gets her in the door!
I’ve already downloaded the next 3 chapters! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

This caught my eye because my mom has been an Avon Lady for years. I enjoyed all of the 40’s slang but for a novella it holds a lot of punch. I found it too dark to read the next one.

That’s one hell of a way to start! Betty is overpowered as all hell, and I love it. Excited to read more!
